Never under estimate the importance of a word. Today we are going to be discussing the importance of the keyword, and how this little word can be your key to Android app success. I have often spoken about the use of keywords when it comes to naming your app and uploading your app to any Android app store, but do you really understand why these words are so important?
Find the right key words for your Android app
A keyword is…..
You may have heard of, or at least seen, these little find me Bluetooth microchips like Chipolo that are being sold worldwide. They are placed on an item of choice, and if your item goes missing the chip can be activated to help you locate the missing item. Well, a keyword has a similar job. It will not find you your missing item, but what it will do is help people find your app.
How do keywords help my app?
When people want to find an app, they type a word into the search engine, either online or within the app store directly. The search engine will search for all items that have names and descriptions that are relevant to this keyword. It will then display all the apps it has found to the searcher. You want your app to appear as part of a search relevant to your app. No use using ‘Dog Kennels’ if your app is selling holiday homes because you see that dog kennels has more hits. Key words must be relevant to your content.
How to I find the right keyword?
1: Log on to Google AdWords.
2: Type in some words related to your subject.
3: Note down what words/phrases are used the most often.
4: Try a few more times, each time writing down your favourites.
5: Now go back and check the competition level. You want to choose a keyword/phrase that has low competition.
6: Trial and error. If you find the app does not succeed, try changing the name. On average, we have found that apps that change their names up to four times see an increase of seven times the amount of downloads.
