One thing we haven’t talked a lot about recently is how to decide what content to put in your app. It’s really important to have an audience in mind for your app. For example, if your app gives grade-school level educational materials, you should probably be creating content that homeschoolers will like. Many homeschoolers are quite conservative, so you would want to watch out for bad language. Where an app for the party scene might use the word ‘butt’ or even ‘ass,’ an educational app would do better to use words like ‘rear’ or ‘bottom.’
If you’re creating a business utility, it’s important to consider that the average businessman doesn’t want an app to make any noise unless it is giving him a time-sensitive reminder or travel directions. On the other hand, a preschoolers app might make noise every time the child touched the screen to give the child feedback.
While it’s important to have an audience in mind, you often find that your users aren’t exactly those you originally intended your app to be for:
