We have spoken about the importance of getting your app in the top pages of an organic app store search, this means when someone types in a search term (a keyword/phrase) your app will be among the top that show up. Today we are looking a little more at how ratings will affect your organic search results and the likelihood of your app not only being found through the search, but also being installed.
Ask yourself the question, would you rather download an app that has an average rating of 4 stars or an app that has an average rating of 2? There is no question to be asked, of course you will automatically, without thinking, opt for the higher rated app. Just for fun go to GooglePlay and type in any keyword, have a look at how many apps in the top have high ratings and where the apps are that have low ratings?
What do the ratings mean?
You need to look at your averages, and remember that it is easier to get a bad rating than a good rating as people love to complain and rarely remember to praise.
4+ stars: If your average rating is 4 then you are doing something right, you are not only providing a wonderful service and app, but have also managed to interact enough with your audience to get them to leave positive feedback, something that is not as easy as it sounds.
3 stars: Not bad at all if this is your average remembering that people like to complain, you are still managing to get some good reviews in there. You need to start looking at getting more people to write reviews, work on your social media campaign and find some incentives for people to review your app.
Less than 3 stars: There is something going wrong, either your app is not up to standard, or you are pulling in the wrong audience. You need to start connecting with the audience and try to figure out why the app isn’t being rated highly. There could be another issue, when people find a problem with your app, if they have no way to contact you they will automatically turn to the ratings to leave their negative comment, ensure that you have left your contact details clearly on the app so that the user can contact you correctly. Send push notifications to users to convince them to contact you via email or connect on social with you and start building a relationship.
Android app success relies on a combination of app quality, ratings, connection with the audience and of course your marketing techniques. We wish you every success
