Each week we try to show you different ways in which you can either make your app, plan your app or turn your free Android app into cash. This week we are going to focus upon ways in which we can market your app effectively and today we are focusing on one part of your app that needs to be planned before the app’s creation but with the option for updating throughout its existence. We are looking at location based deals.

What does location based deals really mean?
Many apps that are created are made for a specific audience that are interested in the product or service that the app provides. Take for example an app that has been created to promote your local youth centre. This app will be aimed at the parents and children based within a certain location.
What would I advertise to this group?
You need to look at the audience and see what they may need. There are two things which you can promote to this audience type:
1: Services connected to the business directly – In this instance, using the youth centre as an example, you may promote a class that will be taking place, an event that is coming up at the centre or even job opportunities within the centre. The idea here is that you are connecting with a group that are already interested in what is already happening within the centre and you can utilize their readership to promote more internal deals and raise awareness that will in turn earn you more money at the youth centre itself.
2: External services – This is where you can make money by selling advertising space on the app itself whilst getting the community involved with the youth centre. The businesses that you would allow to advertise must be located within the locality of the youth centre and the services that are advertised must suit the needs of your audience. For example, in this instance you could get local shops to offer money off vouchers for users of your app, the shops would pay you monthly for advertising their business and your users would get great deals.
How would I incorporate these deals within my free Android app?
There are a number of ways in which you can promote the deals on your app
1: Text-based messages – Although this is not as common as it once was, due to the influx of smartphones, text messages still provide a great service. When your user signs up to your app make sure they tick the agreement to receive text message alerts from you and you can then sign up to a mobile text messaging service that will automatically send text messages on your behalf to all your audience members.
2: Push Notifications – The smartphone’s answer to text messaging. Push notifications, or alerts as they are also known, can be scheduled directly from your AppsGeyser dashboard to your app audience. The messages will appear as a little alert on the users mobile phone next to the icon. These messages are non-invasive and are very powerful in carrying out their mission to pass a message to your app audience.
How valuable are these services for location based deals?
From a small survey carried out by mBlox the following data was highlighted:
- 68 percent of global respondents and 66 percent of U.S. respondents find SMS or push messages sent to them from a company to be valuable
- 57 percent of global respondents and 60 percent of U.S. respondents find SMS and push messages more likely to persuade them to make a purchase than other forms of marketing on a mobile device, including advertising commercials or video advertising, banner or standard display advertising, and email marketing messages
- 75 percent of global respondents and 75 percent of U.S. respondents are likely to read or engage with SMS and push marketing messages, such as location-triggered coupons, updates or deals relevant to the mobile apps downloaded
It is clear to see that your audience is not only open to being marketed to, they are in fact waiting for your promotions to come flying through their mobile devices at them so they can grab themselves a deal.
It has never been easier than it is today to turn your free Android App into cash.
