Google Play is one of the most popular Android app stores around and it is to this app store the majority of app makers decide to publish their app. Over the next few days we are going to look in more detail at this popular Android app store and find out why it is so special, how we can make our app successful in this app store and how we upload to this app store.
GooglePlay for the app user
GooglePlay is the daddy of all Android app stores, although the name was not so popular when it was rebranded in March 2012 when the Android Market as it was formally know was merged with Google Music. Many feared that the rebranded GooglePlay would fail as the name was confusing, on one hand, market refers to somewhere you can purchase anything which in essence that is what we can do in GooglePlay, but on the other hand the word Play brings games to mind. The question remained would the name confuse app users. Well, today we know that answer is an astounding NO, GooglePlay is the Android app market to be seen in if you want to make an Android app and make it successful.
The types of apps that we can find in GooglePlay range from books and music, to travel advice apps, games and has literally every type of app you could imagine. Some apps appear for free whilst others will have a small cost to download them. You may also find free apps that have add-ons which you will need to purchase, trial apps of which you have the option to purchase premium apps upon completion of the trial. Your options on GooglePlay are ongoing.
GooglePlay for the app developer
Unlike the beautiful world of Apple, and yes I am being sarcastic, GooglePlay does not discriminate against apps, there is a very slight review process, which we will discuss shortly, but in short, GooglePlay is very easy to use. You need to make an Android app and then open an app developer account, this will cost you $25 and then complete all aspects of the uploading process. Tomorrow we will look at this process in detail.
Advantages of Google Play
